Duquesne Taking On Rhode Island in Second Round of the A10 Tournament

The Duquesne University Men's Basketball team is having a round three matchup but not at home a few blocks away from home at PPG as they take on Rhode Island University in the second round of the A10 Tournament.

These two teams are 1-1 winning at their respective home turfs. The Dukes are looking to send themselves to the quarterfinals after finishing the year on a positive note winning in dramatic fashion with the fourth largest NCAA comeback against the Richmond Spiders on Senior Day.

The Dukes are led by a quartet of talented offensive stars including Alex Williams, Jimmie Williams, David Dixon and Terance Guinyard who have been the bulk of Duquesne's offense.

Duquesne is 30-35 all time against the Rams with them hoping to take the season series over them.

A key thing on both sides will be this magic number of 70 with Rhode Island only averaging 66.6 points during conference play.

Duquesne's offense has gone a bit cold down the stretch struggling against Dayton, Davidson and Rhode Island the second time around and are looking to get back to early conference form.

The Rams will look to lean on their steal heavy play having the second-best turnover margin in conference play this season against a Duquesne team that is prone to turning the ball over a lot.

They will be leaning on the four players mentioned earlier for the Dukes with two award winners in Terance Guinyard being a First Team All-Conference team and Jimmie Williams earning Third Team All-Conference Team.

A big name to keep an eye on for Duquesne will be Maximus Edwards as the bench has been struggling, he gave solid minutes and six points against the Spiders off the bench in a game where every moment matter.

For Rhode Island a big name to keep an eye out for is R.J. Johnson who played key minutes off the bench forcing two steals and 14 points in a dominant home win against Duquesne the second time round.

The game begins at 5 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena so be sure to show up Duquesne fans.

Duquesne led as far as 21 points up against Queens College, but when you saw the end of the second half, the Dukes had to go into overtime.  The Dukes took down the Royals at home, in overtime, as coming up clutch was the name of the game.  “I knew once we went into overtime, you know, the game was kind of in our hands. You know, we built for this,” Hugley IV said. “We practiced like this, you know, we practice against each other hard every day, you know, just going to war with each other every day.” Players like Jakub Necas had two big moments, the first being a three-point shot with 1:31 left in the second half. The second was a layup as the first bucket in overtime for the Dukes to give them the lead 77-75, in which they would not relinquish the rest of OT.  “I'm just trying to be myself, you know, and just play basketball and be healthy as much as I can on the court.” Necas said.  The shots were not falling for the Dukes for a while as they went 0-9 for three-poi...

St Bonaventure vs La Salle Recap

As the clock hit 0 St Bonaventure's head coach Mark Schmidt will have to wait at least one more day before his season comes to a close as they dominate La Salle in the first contest of the A-10 Tournament winning with a final score of 99-80.  The game was decided quickly in the second half as they opened up after smothering La Salle for the final four minutes of the first half keeping them scoreless and down by nine the Bonnies opened up the second half with a 13-5 run that essentially ended the Explorers season.  The losses of Jerome Brewer Jr. and Jaeden Marshall were definitely felt for La Salle as the offense severely struggled along with the defense.  The main star for the Explorers was Rob Dockery who led the charge with 31 points in a double-double to end his season.  While the shooting for La Salle was slow in the first half it picked up with a resilient bounce back performance with Ashton Walker going 5-for-12 in the second half finishing with 15 points....
