St Bonaventure vs La Salle Recap

As the clock hit 0 St Bonaventure's head coach Mark Schmidt will have to wait at least one more day before his season comes to a close as they dominate La Salle in the first contest of the A-10 Tournament winning with a final score of 99-80.  The game was decided quickly in the second half as they opened up after smothering La Salle for the final four minutes of the first half keeping them scoreless and down by nine the Bonnies opened up the second half with a 13-5 run that essentially ended the Explorers season.  The losses of Jerome Brewer Jr. and Jaeden Marshall were definitely felt for La Salle as the offense severely struggled along with the defense.  The main star for the Explorers was Rob Dockery who led the charge with 31 points in a double-double to end his season.  While the shooting for La Salle was slow in the first half it picked up with a resilient bounce back performance with Ashton Walker going 5-for-12 in the second half finishing with 15 points....

Duquesne Survives Late Rally and Overtime Against Queens College 87-81 to Improve to 3-0

Duquesne led as far as 21 points up against Queens College, but when you saw the end of the second half, the Dukes had to go into overtime.  The Dukes took down the Royals at home, in overtime, as coming up clutch was the name of the game.  “I knew once we went into overtime, you know, the game was kind of in our hands. You know, we built for this,” Hugley IV said. “We practiced like this, you know, we practice against each other hard every day, you know, just going to war with each other every day.” Players like Jakub Necas had two big moments, the first being a three-point shot with 1:31 left in the second half. The second was a layup as the first bucket in overtime for the Dukes to give them the lead 77-75, in which they would not relinquish the rest of OT.  “I'm just trying to be myself, you know, and just play basketball and be healthy as much as I can on the court.” Necas said.  The shots were not falling for the Dukes for a while as they went 0-9 for three-poi...

Hugley IV, Williams, Guinyard have impressive debuts as Dukes Win Twice to Start off 2-0 to Open the Season.

The Cooper Fieldhouse was roaring with celebration and good vibes as the Duquesne Men’s Basketball team won their season home opener against Niagara.  The Dukes controlled the game from the opening tip-off, having the lead for the entirety of the contest against the Purple Eagles to secure their 1,500th win for the program since its inception in 1914.  The physical play affected Niagara throughout the entirety of the contest, with the Purple Eagles shooting 14.3% at the three-point line.  The Dukes jumped out early with a 9-0 run courtesy of fast, gritty play by Senior Guard Tarence Guinyard and Junior Guard Jimmie Williams, who scored all nine of the points.  The two of them felt connected on the court all night long, and this connection also extended off the court.  “I actually met TJ before the season even started. I just randomly saw him at a park up in Tampa. And ever since then, you know, I found out he committed here. And we just had a great relati...

Is the World as Violent as TV and Social Media Make it Out to Be?

Every day, people turn on the TV or use social media to gather information to understand what is happening in their lives.  When they log on to social media or turn on the local or national news, they are bombarded with violence, war, destruction and content that is meant to enrage and upset them.  Why is that the case? Why do so many people look at that kind of content and assume the rest of the world is like this? There is a theory called Mean World Syndrome, which states that those who consume a significant amount of violent media come to believe that the world is more dangerous and threatening than it is, which leads to increased worry about crime and victimization.  It is a problem that is plaguing America as we speak because people see that violent national crime has dropped according to the Real-Time Crime Index . The numbers peaked in 2022 before continuing on a steady decline to today, which are some of the lowest numbers since COVID-19, but people still don’t fe...
